First speedboat rental — what to know before departure
Renting a speedboat for the first time? Here are the steps from booking to return to Makarska harbour.
Last updated: June 2026.
Speedboat rental at Ogopogo is available with skipper or self-drive with a licence. This guide covers self-drive rental — if you do not have a licence, see rental with skipper.
Your route: You choose where you sail — routes in the guides (5 hours, 3 islands…) are only suggestions for planning. The harbour briefing includes tips and you adapt the final plan to your slot and experience.
1. Boat licence
A valid boat licence is required. Bring it when picking up the boat in harbour (west side, next to INA).
2. Booking and deposit
- Book in advance — especially in July and August
- Deposit: €50 — paid in advance and deducted from the rental price (not refunded separately)
- If you book in advance, pay the deposit at least 1 day before rental
3. Picking up the boat
In Makarska harbour you receive a briefing: operation, safety, GPS, anchor and route suggestions. Choose Jeanneau (up to 6 people) or BMA X222 (up to 8 people), then agree on your sailing plan.
4. Fuel
Fuel is not included in the rental price — paid by consumption, with or without skipper. On the 3-island route expect around 60 litres.
5. Route for first time — suggestion
If you are boating for the first time, the 5-hour route suggestion (Bol + Zečevo) is often a good start — fewer stops, more time to get used to the boat. You are not obliged to follow that plan.
6. Return
Return the boat at the agreed time to the same harbour. After inspection you pay the remainder of the rental price (total price minus deposit already paid) and fuel.
Not sure? For your first time at sea we recommend a skipper (+€100) — they drive the boat and help with navigation; fuel is still paid separately.
